Well I learned my lesson the other day. I realized I can’t win a battle against the wind, so I gave in and put my hair in a bun. I am still kicking myself for thinking chin-length hair was a good idea 3 years ago, but it’s finally growing out to a length where I can make a pretty decent top knot! The wind has brought in a cold front, and it seems like it’s here to stay for a couple months. But I don’t really mind! It just means more trips to Starbucks, sitting by the fireplace and an excuse cuddle up and watch movies all day long! Plus, my boyfriend will be home for a couple weeks in December, so I don’t really care what the weather does one way or another. As long as he is home I will be happy!

Fall in the Midwest is very temperamental. It snowed on Monday and dropped into the teens at night, but was 65 degrees and rainy today. At this point, I’d rather it just get cold and snow. (I’ll most likely wish I didn’t say this when it actually does snow again, which will probably be sometime this week!) The wind was ridiculous today, and I made the poor choice to wear my hair down today, so that’s why my face is not making an appearance in this post!

The weather did cooperate long enough to snap a couple pictures of my outfit today. We had strong storms and tornadoes all around us, but fortunately it cleared up just before the sun began to set. My friend and I had plans to go to the gym and make DIY projects this afternoon, but we only had time for lunch before we had to head home before the storm hit. So naturally I spent my afternoon scanning Pinterest for the perfect DIY projects for us to make next weekend, which I can’t wait to share on here!

Long Weekend in California

It’s been a while since I last posted on here. Things were kinda crazy in October and I just didn’t have a chance to sit down and spend time on my blog. Now that things are somewhat winding down (and will soon be hectic again, with the holidays coming up!) I’ve finally been able to set aside some time to take pictures and post more regularly.

At the beginning of the month, I took a spontaneous trip to Twentynine Palms, CA to visit my boyfriend. Because he’s in the Marine Corps, we haven’t really seen much of each other since June. I had some vacation days left at work and planned on visiting him before Christmas, so I flew to CA on a Friday and flew back to Chicago on a Monday. It was a short trip (or a long weekend, depending on how you look at it!) but so worth it! Jake and I hadn’t seen each other since early September, so it was such a treat to be together again! It was definitely one of the best weekends I’ve ever had! We had so much fun and went on spontaneous adventures together, and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life!

First picture of the trip. Jake and I went to Desert Christ Park in Yucca Valley, and it was such an incredible experience! It took us through 10 stories from The Bible, with 50  concrete statues depicting the ministry and events of Jesus Christ. There’s not a whole lot to do in Twentynine Palms (or in the surrounding cities!), so you’ve got to be pretty creative and seek out the hidden gems in the desert.the 219the 219

On the hill is the Rhythms of Life geoglyph by Andrew Rogers. Rogers has created 48 sculptures like this all over the world, and this is the only one in North America. The picture below is taken at the top of the hill (standing next to the geoglyph). You can see my car at the bottom of the hill – it was a steep climb!

Jake and I ventured out to Palm Springs one of the days I was there. It was so nice to see grass and flowers (which are very rare in Twentynine Palms!) We grabbed lunch in the downtown area, but wanted to do something other than shop – we both love shopping and always end up going to a mall, and this time we decided to do something we can’t do anywhere else. Seeing as there are no mountains in Indiana, we headed up the mountain to do something that was both completely terrifying and absolutely incredible. We rode on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway,  which was a 10 minute ride up Chino Canyon, beginning at Valley Station – elevation 2,643 ft. and ending at the Mountain Station – elevation 8,516 ft. It was so cool and so scary, but we were both so glad we ventured out and experienced something new together! Jake and I love trying new things together, and this was definitely a new and exciting experience! You can learn more about it here.the 219the 219
Notice the green spot in the picture that I took – that’s where we started! I believe we were about halfway up the mountain when I took this, so we went much higher than this! I’m afraid of heights, so this was especially nerve wracking! But I had a strong Marine to cling onto, so I was just fine :)

Scalloped Skirt

I wear a lot of skirts during the week, and I’m always on the lookout for something different to mix up my outfits. I spotted this skirt while shopping over the weekend and knew it would be a perfect addition to my skirt collection. I’m not an edgy person in terms of fashion, so I really love how the soft scalloping balances out a leather jacket and a printed top.

I am totally in love with the sweatshirt and skirt trend, and I have been lusting over this sweatshirt ever since its first appearance at J.Crew a couple months ago. Because of Columbus Day, there were so many great sales this weekend, and I scored this sweatshirt for 50% off! And now that the temperature is dropping again, I will probably wear it nonstop (I may have already worn it twice since I purchased it on Saturday…shhh!)
